Section 9 - Automation Protocols

The Sur-Gard MLR2E receiver sends the various protocols to

report signals to the central station computer via an RS-232

port. The complete description of protocols is available

upon request.

9.1 Data Byte protocol

The Sur-Gard MLR2E receiver uses a default configu-

ration of 19200 Baud, one start bit, seven data bits,

one even parity bit, and one stop bit structure to

transmit and receive signals on the RS-232 port. This

protocol can be programmed on the receiver to

enable different configurations.

9.2 Acknowledgment of the Signal

The Sur-Gard receiver requires an acknowledgment

signal [ACK] (Hex 06) from the computer software

within 4 seconds for each message sent. Failure to

receive the [ACK] will result in the retransmission of

the same signal three times before giving up. The

same thing happens if the receiver receives a [NAK]

(hex 15). In case of communication failure with the

computer, the Sur-Gard receiver can store up to 127

times the number of lines installed in its internal mem-

ory. The communication is resumed when the first

ACK is received on the heartbeat.
